Nearly every STEM course today provides opportunities for learners to generate and/or analyze data. Instructors are increasingly aware of the need to make these opportunities accessible to learners with disabilities through multiple means of representation. In parallel, efforts to increase sharing of reusable, reproducible scientific data across STEM disciplines highlight the need to help learners develop the skills to generate, manage, and analyze such data. Meeting both needs presents challenges for instructors. In this session, we’ll explore the intersection between making data and data representation accessible, and making it more sharable and reusable, highlighting strategies that accomplish both goals simultaneously. We’ll use a semi-structured discussion activity to identify ways to help learners turn these best practices into habits that can make the future scientific data landscape better for everyone.
