About the event
Join Shannon Behrman this Friday, October 10th, for a conversation about the "Impact of short film activities on student learning, science identity and nature of science comprehension."
Stories shape how students see science—and themselves in relation to it. In this session, Dr. Shannon Behrman from the Science Communication Lab will screen the short nonfiction film, Decoding Ancestral Knowledge, featuring Native Hawaiian scientist Dr. Kiana Frank. Through guided discussion and interactive reflection, participants will experience how these films can spark conversations and activities about science identity and the nature of science. She will also share relevant research findings showing that films like these broaden students’ perspectives on who scientists are and how science is practiced. Attendees will leave with access to the films, classroom-ready strategies for using them, and evidence of their transformative potential for science teaching and learning.
